V-Scope is an immersive volume rendering application, allowing the visualization of 3D volumetric data in virtual environments, like a CAVE(tm) or head-mounted display.

Conceptually, the planning of a surgical procedure with 3D computer-generated imagery should reflect the 3D nature of the real procedure. By using virtual reality (VR) technology V-Scope provides clinicians with views much more alike those they will experience during surgery, than 2D slices or even volume renderings on normal displays can offer.

In the virtual environment medical professionals can view and interact with their volumetric data in all three dimensions. By using a tracked 6 degrees-of-freedom pointer the data can be sliced, marked and measured more easily and precisely than on ordinary 2D displays.

V-Scope is able to handle very large datasets of most medical imaging modalities (e.g. MRI, CT, PET, SPECT and 3D ultrasound). There are two configurations, V-Scope with a Barco's I-Space and V-Scope with a desktop configuration.
